There are many factors that go into becoming a Logistics Management Top 50 LTL Carrier, but year after year the carriers that stay on top all have one thing in common: great company culture.
Greg Orr, President of CFI and Executive Vice President for U.S. Truckload for TFI, says "Culture is first and foremost," he goes on to explain "It sets the tone for everything and everybody." Orr believes in "having the right players with you who are as good or better than you. Having a committed group who knows where we need to improve and are able to tie everything to that. Then they have ownership and take accountability to drive you to the results that you need."
But with recent supply chain disruptions, the pandemic, and an ongoing driver shortage there are other factors that go into company success. "The strategy seems to change daily nowadays," says Orr.
CFI has recently purchased 770 Kenworth T-680 Next Generation tractors equipped with safety technologies and driver conveniences that are most in-demand today. In addition to purchasing new equipment to keep drivers happy and retain their workforce, CFI raised driver pay by two cents a mile and Orr says "there's probably another one coming this year."
The past few years have been particularly difficult for trucking companies that have to address constant change, but those on top know the importance of keeping their employees happy and promoting great company culture.
